Description

Spironolactone, also known as spironolactone, is a kind of potassium preserving diuretic drug. It competes with aldosterone in the cortical epithelial cells of distal tubules and collecting ducts for the aldosterone receptor in the target cells, so as to inhibit the role of aldosterone in promoting sodium and potassium exchange, increase the excretion of sodium chloride and have a diuretic effect, while potassium ions can be retained. Therefore, spironolactone is a kind of potassium preserving diuretic drug.

Function

Spironolactone is a weak potassium retention diuretic, also known as spironolactone and spironolactone. It is a white or quasi white fine crystalline powder, slightly bitter, odorless or slightly mercaptan smelly. It is very soluble in chloroform, insoluble in water, soluble in ethanol, and easily soluble in benzene or ethyl acetate. Its chemical structure is similar to that of aldosterone. It can compete with aldosterone for aldosterone receptors in the cytoplasm of distal convoluted tubules and collecting ducts, affect the binding of aldosterone and receptors, thus hinder the synthesis of aldosterone induced proteins, thereby inhibiting k+-na+ exchange, reducing potassium excretion, and playing a potassium retention and diuresis role.

At present, there are two kinds of spironolactone on the market, one is spironolactone tablets, the other is spironolactone cream. Its composition and treatment principle are roughly the same, but the drug form is different. Spironolactone has been invented for more than 40 years. It is mainly used in combination with other drugs to treat essential hypertension and edema diseases. But because it can reduce the androgen in the body, it is also used in medicine to treat male hair loss. The anti hormone effect of spironolactone is weaker than finasteride, so it is very suitable for female patients with hair loss.

Application

Aldactone removes excess fluid from the body in congestive heart failure, cirrhosis of the liver, and kidney disease.

It also can be used in combination with other drugs to treat elevated blood pressure, and for treating diuretic-induced low potassium (hypokalemia).

Aldactone also is used to counteract the effects of excessive adrenal aldosterone production (hyperaldosteronism). Aldosterone overproduction can occur from a tumor in the adrenal gland or enlarged adrenal glands (hyperplasia of the adrenal glands).
