What is Amphotericin B?

Amphotericin B, also known as Lushanmycin, is a polyene antifungal antibiotic isolated from the culture medium of Streptomyces nodosus.
Function of Amphotericin B

The molecular composition of amphotericin B is a compound containing 7 pairs of conjugated double bonds. The macrolide is used as a ligand and a deoxyaminohexose of trehalosamine (mycosamine) is used as a sugar group, which is connected by a glycosidic bond. Because there is an amino group and a carboxyl group in the structure, it is an amphoteric substance.
 

Application:

The product has strong inhibition or killing effect on many kinds of fungal infections, such as cryptococcus neoformans, candida albicans, histoplasma capsulatum, dermatitis odontobacterium, schenckii sporotrichum, trichoderma and cocidiosporidium. This product is mainly used as the first choice for deep mycosis. 
Polyene antifungal agents. This product combines with the sterol on the fungal cell membrane, damages the permeability of the membrane, causes the leakage of potassium ions, nucleotides, amino acids and so on in the cell, destroys the normal metabolism and plays a bacteriostatic role.
