Spermidine is a yellowish crystal or powder containing protonated guanidine. It is a natural compound containing two guanidine groups and a β-alanine group. Spermidine is a weakly smelling, water-soluble molecule that readily ionizes into positively charged molecules and is often used as a standard chemical for hydrolase activity.

Spermidine is an extract of wheat germ, extracted from Triticum aestivum L. Spermidine, first isolated from semen or sperm, is a water-soluble polyamine ingredient that occurs naturally in all tissues of our human bodies and is also found in many other organisms like animals, plants, and typical dietary foods.
