What is Trimethylsulfoxonium iodide ?

Pharmaceutical intermediate, mainly used in the synthesis of fluconazole. 

Trimethyl sulfoxonium Iodide is used to synthesize methylene transfer reagents that are used in the preparation of epoxides.

Fuction and Application 

It is mainly used for the synthesis of fluconazole.

The strong alkali treatment can produce inner onium salt, which can react with the carbonyl of ketone and aldehyde to produce epoxide.Cyclopropyl ester may also be preferentially added to double bonds of -unsaturated esters.
