What is Osimertinib mesylate?

Osimertinib (previously known as mereletinib or AZD9291) is a third-generation epidermal g factor receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitor drug.

AZD9291 is a Kinase Inhibitor. The mechanism of action of osimertinib is as a Kinase Inhibitor, and Cytochrome P450 3A Inhibitor, and Cytochrome P450 3A4 Inducer, and Cytochrome P450 1A2 Inducer, and Breast Cancer Resistance Protein Inhibitor.

As this agent is selective towards mutant forms of EGFR, its toxicity profile may be reduced when compared to non-selective EGFR inhibitors which also inhibit wild-type EGFR.

AZD9291 used in the therapy of selected forms of advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Osimertinib is associated with a moderate rate of serum aminotransferase elevations during therapy and rare instances of clinically apparent acute liver injury.
