Mycophenolate Mofetil is a semi-synthetic derivative of mycophenolic acid (MPA) isolated from the enzymes of Mycobacterium Penicillinglaucum. In the late 1980s, animal studies on organ transplantation confirmed that it could significantly prolong the survival time of rodent and canine allograft kidneys, hearts and islets, etc. Sollinger et al. successfully applied MMF to kidney transplantation anti-rejection therapy for the first time, with significant therapeutic effects. The FDA approved its registration in 1995 under the trade name Cellcept, thus adding a new effective immunosuppressive agent for the prevention and treatment of rejection to the clinical application.
